UNTIL THERE WAS YOU
Characters come to me in different ways. Since many of you have enjoyed the Graysons of New Mexico series, I thought I’d take this opportunity to discuss Luke Grayson, the gorgeous hero of UNTIL THERE WAS YOU.Luke appeared in BREAK EVERY RULE as the disgruntled wedding guest and cousin of Dominique and Daniel Falcon. I had no intention of writing his story – until I’d finished writing the scene. I smiled and knew Luke’s day was coming.
I had a character, but he needed to come alive for me and thus, the reader. I spent countless hours thinking about Luke, his profession, his personality, what made him the man he was. Since he was related to the fiercely proud Falcon family, I knew he would be a man to be reckoned with. His heritage, like Daniel and Dominique, would be part Muscogee Creek Native American, part African-American. His ancestors walked The Trail of Tears.
It didn’t take long for Ruth Grayson, his strong-willed and determined mother, to appear with her quest to see each of her children, from the oldest to the youngest, find their heart’s desire just as she had. Since they were dragging their feet, Ruth decided to give her five children – Luke, Morgan, Brandon, Pierce and Sierra -a little help.
I have to admit, I’ve received some, shall we say, comments, on Ruth “helping” her children. I saw it as a mother’s love. Especially, since she had such great taste in finding the perfect person. Who can fault a mother for selecting an incredibly sexy (rich – but that isn’t important – LOL) man like Blade Navarone in ONLY YOU? Not me.
Have a great day,
Francis
