October is National Domestic Violence Month
With the publication of The Turning Point, my first mainstream in 2001, I established The Turning Point Legal Fund to assist abused women. The fund is administered by The Family Place (www.thefamilyplace.org), a women’s shelter in Dallas, Tx. I was stunned and saddened to learn Texas led in homicides for domestic violence. I wanted to help change this horrifying statistic so I established the fund. A portion of each royalty check is given to the TPLF. The Turning Point was reissued/retitled Trouble Don’t Last Always in trade in 2004.
October is also National Breast Cancer Awareness month. I hope you showed your love for yourself and your family by having a mammogram and or urging a family member/friend to do so. Don’t forget those all-important self breast exams.
Back to writing. In a couple of weeks the NASCAR NEXTEL Dickies 500 will be at the Texas Motor Speedway. I have a press pass. I’m excited about interviewing NASCAR drivers and getting a behind-the-scene look at one of the top professional sports in the country. They get to drive 200mph and it’s all legal.
Best,
Francis
