NASCAR Field Trip

The NASCAR Dickies 500 is Sunday at The Texas Motor Speedway in Ft. Worth, Texas.  M. Rizzo, Director of Media Relations, has been simply wonderful in helping me get a press pass to view the behind-the-scene events.  I want to see a tire changed in less than 15 seconds when it took me 2 days (the tire wasn’t in stock, employee ordered the wrong tire, manager had to go to another store and pick up correct tire) and a total of almost 4 hours to have one tire changed!

Since the expected crowd is 350,000 I plan to leave early, make sure the car’s gas tank is full.  I have a selection of audio books and snacks in the car.  LOL.  I’m going tomorrow, Saturday, for the Busch series, in which the up-and-comers compete.  Sometimes the NASCAR drivers compete in the Busch Series to test a car, which is what my NASCAR hero, Cameron McBride, does in CAMERON’S DESTINY.  For those of you familiar with my Graysons of New Mexico Series you’ll recall that Cameron is Faith’s brother from DREAMING OF YOU.

Cameron is African-American.  There have been few African-American drivers in NASCAR.  I know Lewis Hamilton is Formula One’s first black driver.  He’s barely 22 and is a rookie phenom.

Have a great weekend.  I have my tape recorder, camera, notebook, extra everything.  I just have to say this- that only the women will understand – my hair stylist, all right beautician, cancelled on me. I almost cried.  It’s all right guys, my husband didn’t understand either.

Hugs,

Francis
