Michelle wrote this for Mother’s Day.

As he drove to the location, his mind was focused on the cars and the landscape. There was no music or talk radio to dull the senses. Every year, same place, same time.

He pulled up to the towering wrought iron entry gate. The two sides quietly swung open. He pulled through and continued down the winding road. There was no turning back now as the gate shut, locking all in and everyone out. He pulled up to the front entrance, got out, opened the back door of the car and removed a long metal case. He started up the steps. Halfway there, the door opened. Inside, he silently walked down the long hall, his footsteps soundless on the Italian marble floor. He opened the door to a lavish room.

There she was, sitting in her throne chair. Her tall, dancer’s body may have aged, but she remained intelligent and lethal.

“Son.” She slowly rose and held out her hands.

When he was a child, his mother didn’t except the normal things that mothers cherished. There were no crooked handmade cards, tissue paper flowers, perfume or chocolates. No. His mother only wanted a kill status report on the mission she’d sent him on.

He unlocked the case and pulled out the sixteenth century Katana sword. He placed the sword in her hands. She slowly slid her right foot behind her, gripping the katana above her head. He softly sighed. He hated Mother’s Day. He took out his own Katana, a present from her on his 18th birthday. The only other present he’d received was a Blackhawk Hawkhook Serrated Knife that his personal scuba diving instructor and diving budddy gave him as they sat on the Stingray boat after the mission.

He flipped the sword over the top of his hand with great flourish, and slid his left foot in position. He smiled to himself, this year he would win.

He didn’t.

Easter was almost here and Ruth’s order for the Easter Vegetable Garden from la Maison du Chocolat was being placed on the dinning table. Harold and Gaspard, the two adorable chocolate rabbits in the racing cars at the starting line of the Easter rally would surly bring a smile to Cameron and his son, Joshua. She almost took an ear off of Gaspard, the dark chocolate rabbit. She unwrapped a milk praline egg instead.
